Our Mission

Our mission is to foster the educational development of Black children in an effective test preparatory environment that furthers diversity within Specialized High Schools in New York City. A group of concerned alumni from Brooklyn Technical High School decided to launch an outreach program administered by CAS Prep, a community based test prep and academic enrichment company, which prepares 7th and 8th grade students for the SHSAT.

The SHSAT is an intense test given to 8th graders in late October and early November that demands students have mastery of concepts and strategies that are often outside of the regular academic curriculum. To effectively prepare, students must

The primary purpose of this educational fund is to support existing initiatives and programs that will train Black youth to succeed educational and professionally in Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) . The idea of the Harambee Educational Foundation was born out of similarly named informal fundraiser that provided free preparation for the New York SHSAT to twenty youth from historically Black neighborhoods.

The educational grants provided by the foundation will be a one-time, nonrenewable, unrestricted stipend to be used by existing organizations to provide or purchase and services and products related to the training of students in STEM.

The board of the Harambee Educational Foundation will determine what organizations will receive funds that it collects for the purpose of educating children. The organizations or schools that receive funding from the Harambee organization- must be licensed school in NYS, or a profit or nonprofit organization with a valid tax ID before entering into any agreements.

Once an organization has been selected by the Harambee Educational Foundation, to provide scholarships to individual students, or to help enhance an organizations existing communal offering (i.e. computers, software, expanded facilities, training) – the following criteria should be met.

In order to be eligible for the stipend, partnering organization must:

(a) Provide name, address & IRS tax identification number

(b) Identify executive sponsor that will liaison with the Harambee Educational Foundation

(c) Submit detailed project plan for proposed scholarship or initiative to the Harambee Educational Foundation
